Journal or magazine article found online or from a library database

Format

Last Name, First Initial. Middle Initial. (Year). Title of article. Title of Journal or Magazine, Volume number (Issue Number), first page number - last page number. doi

Example--Article with a DOI

Cullen, S. (2016). The innocent and the runaway: Kanye West, Taylor Swift, and the cultural politics of racial melodrama.” Journal of Popular Music Studies, 28(1), 33–50.  https://doi.org/10.1111/jpms.12160

Example--Article without a DOI

House, L. A., Neal, C., & Backels, K. (2018). A doggone way to reduce stress: An animal assisted intervention with college students. College Student Journal, 52(2), 199–204


                            If there is a DOI (digital object identifier) associated with the the article, include that after the page number. If not, end the citation with the page numbers

                            Capitalization rules. For the article title--Capitalize the first word, proper words and first word following a colon. Journal Title: Capitalize all major words (in this case, Journal, Popular, Music, Studies)

Author's Last Name, First Initial. Middle Initial. (Date).  Title of article. Name of Newspaper. URL

                            Dates should be formatted (Year, Month Day). Do not abbreviate any month.

                            If the article is from a news website (CNN, MSNBC) that does not have a daily or weekly paper, format like you would a website (see examples on next page of this libguide)
